In this winter video we take a walk along Mayakovsky Street in St. Petersburg (Russia). Our walking tour will start from Kirochnaya Street and end at Nevsky Prospect. The cultural capital of Russia, Venice of the North is often called St. Petersburg, the second largest city in Russia with a population of 4.8 million. Few cities in the world can boast of such a number of attractions, museum collections, opera and drama theaters, manors and palaces, parks and monuments. The literary and musical heritage of St. Petersburg is no less outstanding - the number of writers, poets and composers who worked on its misty shores amazes even the most daring imagination. Along with Paris, Rome and Venice, St. Petersburg is included in the UNESCO List as a city in which the entire historical center is taken under patronage. Among other things, there are temples of 42 denominations, including an amazing mosque with a porcelain dome, a Buddhist monastery and one of the most beautiful chapels of the Order of Malta. St. Petersburg is a "city of bridges". 68 rivers, canals and channels cross the city in different directions, forming 42 islands on its territory. Now in St. Petersburg and its suburbs, there are 580 bridges, including 20 drawbridges.
The street was built in the first half of the 18th century and was originally called the Middle Perspective
/// Mayakovsky Street, between Nevsky Prospect. and Kirochnaya street, was built in the 1st half of the 18th century and was called the Middle Perspective, in the middle of the 19th century - Shetilavochnaya, then - Nadezhdinskaya. In 1936, the street was renamed in memory of the poet V. Mayakovsky, who lived on this street in 1915-18 in house 52. Until the middle of the 19th century, the street retained its outskirts, in the 2nd half of the 19th and early 20th centuries it was built up with apartment buildings.
