The town of Kronstadt is situated on the small island of Kotlin in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, 48 km west of Saint Petersburg and is probably the most under-visited (by foreigners) attraction in St. Petersburg.
That makes it wonderful. It is a bit of a “specialist” interest. If you want to see a part of the “real” Russia, where mostly only Russian visitors go, consider Kronstadt.
Anchor Square is dotted with military memorials. On the square, the 20th-century Byzantine-style Naval Cathedral has an ornate interior. Tree-lined Petrovskiy Park is home to the 19th-century Monument to Peter the Great. Kronstadt History Museum displays regional artifacts.
