Dating to the late twelfth century, the Saint Petersburg Bestiary was made in eastern England. It represents a transitional type of bestiary based on a general “B” type but with several interpolations and additions. With 114 miniatures and 108 animals, gold borders and backgrounds, it was intended for a lay patron.
